The Horizontal Directional Drilling method

This trenching method is applied for long-distance installation of new engineering communications on complex soils and sites with complicated access (underneath roads, buildings, trees, rivers, etc.) without digging the surface.

The tool makes a subsurface tunnel of required diameter by drilling and drives new pipes of proper size.  While drilling the rig operator controls drilling direction and depth by means of sounding unit.
